Your first Claude prompt (beginner template)

The simplest structured prompt that works for almost any task. Use this until the structure becomes automatic.

Works with: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini

You are a [role, e.g. 'senior copywriter'].

I need you to [specific task].

Context: [relevant background — who this is for, what it's about, any constraints]

Please respond in [format — e.g. '3 bullet points' / '2-paragraph summary' / 'numbered list'].

Ask Claude to critique its own answer

Send this immediately after any response you're not satisfied with. Almost always produces a noticeably better second answer.

Best with: Claude, ChatGPT

Look at your last response critically.

1. What is the weakest or most generic part?
2. What assumption did you make that might be wrong?
3. What would a more expert answer include that yours doesn't?

Now rewrite the response with those improvements applied.

Set up Claude's context for your job (one-time setup)

Paste this into your Claude Project instructions. Fill it in once and never re-explain yourself again.

About me:

- Main responsibilities: [2-3 bullet points]

How I use AI:
- Primarily for: [e.g. drafting emails, summarizing documents]
- Tone I prefer: [e.g. direct and concise / professional but warm]
- Things to avoid: [e.g. bullet points, filler phrases]

Always start responses with the most important information first.

The LLM Council — make AI disagree with you

Forces Claude to argue multiple sides instead of agreeing. Critical for important choices.

Best with: Claude

I need to make a decision about: [describe decision]
My current leaning: [what you're thinking]

Play five distinct advisors:
1. The Skeptic — argues against my leaning with real evidence
2. The Optimist — makes the strongest case for my leaning
3. The Risk Manager — identifies the worst realistic downside
4. The Pragmatist — asks what I'm missing
5. The Devil's Advocate — proposes a third option

End with a Chairman's summary: one recommended path and the one condition that would change it.

Meeting summary with action items

Turn messy notes or a transcript into a structured summary with clear next steps.

Best with: Claude, ChatGPT

Summarize the following meeting notes. Structure as:

**Key decisions made** (what was agreed, not just discussed)
**Action items** (owner · deadline · what exactly they'll do)
**Open questions** (still unresolved, needs follow-up)
**TL;DR** (one sentence anyone can forward)

Notes: [paste notes or transcript]

Pressure test any plan or idea

Ask Claude to find every hole in your plan before someone else does.

Best with: Claude

I'm going to share a plan. Your job is NOT to tell me what's good about it. Find every weakness, assumption, and risk I haven't fully considered.

Be direct. Be specific. If you find a fatal flaw, say so clearly.

Structure your critique as:
- Assumptions I'm making that might be wrong
- Risks I'm underweighting
- Things I haven't thought through
- The one thing most likely to cause this to fail

My plan: [describe your plan]

Verify any AI answer before trusting it

Run this after any factual claim you plan to act on. Catches hallucinations before they cause problems.

Works with: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini

Before I use your last answer, check it.

1. Which specific claims are you most uncertain about?
2. Which facts could you have gotten wrong?
3. What should I verify independently before acting on this?
4. Is there anything that would change significantly if [key variable] were different?

Be honest — I'd rather know you're uncertain than have you sound confident and be wrong.

Cold email sequence

Write a 3-email outbound sequence that earns replies without feeling pushy.

Best with: Claude, ChatGPT

Write a 3-email cold outreach sequence for [product/service].

Target: [role, company type, industry]
Their pain: [describe it specifically]
My offer: [what I'm offering and the concrete outcome]
CTA: [what I want them to do]

Email 1: Lead with their pain, not my pitch. Under 5 sentences. No attachments.
Email 2: Follow-up with one concrete result or case example. No 'just checking in.'
Email 3: Short breakup email. Under 4 sentences. Give them an easy out.

Resume bullet point optimizer

Rewrite weak resume bullets into strong, quantified achievement statements.

- Keep each bullet under 20 words
- Never invent numbers — use [X%] as a placeholder if needed
